Toxicological Assessment of Okra Varieties (Clemson spineless, Ex-Samaru, and NHAE-74) in Wistar Rats

Since plants make up the majority of the food consumed by living things, their metabolisms generate a variety of
poisons that can cause illness and occasionally even death. In order to determine the safety of three improved okra
seed variants, this journal assesses their toxicity. Twenty-eight albino rats weighing between 132 and 136 g were split
into four groups at random for the investigation. For twenty-eight days, group 1 (control) was fed their regular diet of
chicken feed, while groups 2, 3, and 4 were fed a mixture of a 1:3 ratio of chicken feed and (75% okra seed), a variety
of okra seed (Clemson spineless, Ex-samaru, and NHAE-74, respectively). The mass difference of each rat was
measured at the end of each seven days. After twenty-eight days, the rats were killed and their blood was extracted by
cardiac puncture. The kidney function parameters, creatinine, urea, Na+, K+, Cl-, and HCO3- are within their normal
range. The liver function parameter of Total protein (3–6.5), albumin (2.87–2.93), and globulin (2.23-2.85)
concentrations (g/dL) are all within the normal range. The levels of direct bilirubin (0.14-0.17), total bilirubin (0.39
0.43), and AST, ALT, and ALP (mg/dL) are all within the normal range. In haematological studies, every parameter
that was examined fell within the normal range. The seeds are safe to eat because feeding on them causes an increase
in body weight without causing anaemia, kidney, or liver problems.

Tree and shrub diversity plays a crucial role in maintaining ecosystem stability, enhancing biodiversity, and providing
essential ecological services. This study assesses the diversity, abundance, and distribution of tree and shrub species
in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nigeria, with a focus on understanding the implications for biodiversity
conservation and land use management. Data were collected through systematic field surveys and analyzed to
determine species richness, dominance, and ecological patterns across various land-use types. The results reveal
significant variations in species composition and abundance, influenced by anthropogenic activities such as urban
expansion, agriculture, and deforestation. Native species, including Azadirachta indica, Parkia biglobosa, and
Vitellaria paradoxa, were observed in decline due to habitat fragmentation. In contrast, exotic species such as Gmelina
arborea and Tectona grandis showed higher dominance in plantations and urban areas. The study emphasizes the
urgent need for sustainable land-use policies and afforestation initiatives to conserve native biodiversity and mitigate
the ecological impacts of urbanization. Findings from this research provide valuable insights for policymakers,
conservationists, and urban planners to enhance biodiversity conservation efforts in rapidly developing regions like
the FCT.
Phytochemical Profiling and GC-MS Analysis of Bioactive Compounds in Guiera Senegalensis Leaves Extract

Medicinal plants have been used extensively as sources of a wide variety of biologically active compounds for many
centuries and as crude materials or pure compounds for treating various disease conditions. The plant leaves were
extracted with hexane and methanol using the Soxhlet extraction process. The Phytochemical tests were carried out
on the extracts using standard procedures to identify the constituents. The result obtained revealed the presence of
Flavonoids, Tannins, Phenols, and Triterpenes in Methanol and n-Hexane extracts. Saponins, Alkaloids, and Cardiac
glycosides were present in Methanol but absent in n-hexane extract. Anthraquinones were absent in both extracts. The
leaves of the plant have been applied in treating snakebite, stomach ache, cough, and so on. Characterization of the
extracts was done using GC-MS analysis. GC-MS analysis revealed the presence of 50 compounds from which 14, 4,
15, 13, and 13 were for hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, butanol, and aqueous fractions, respectively. The results of
this study supported the use of G. senegalensis in traditional medicine by demonstrating that its leaves contain
phytoconstituents.

Mammography represents a specialized diagnostic imaging technique that employs low-energy X-rays to generate
high-resolution images of breast tissue for both diagnostic and screening applications. The methodology necessitates
meticulous calibration of kilovoltage and tube current-time parameters, specifically customized to the unique thickness
of the breast, to guarantee superior image quality while concurrently minimizing radiation exposure. The principal
aim of mammography is the identification of low-contrast visible masses and calcifications, which may be as small as
100 microns in diameter, thereby demanding high spatial resolution in comparison to traditional X-ray imaging
techniques. With the radiosensitive qualities of breast tissue in mind, it is necessary to keep radiation doses as low as
is reasonably achievable (ALARA) to reduce the associated risk of cancer from X-ray exposure. This investigation
aspires to offer a comprehensive analysis of the operational principles governing mammography apparatus and the
diverse detectors utilised in mammographic imaging. Through the exploration of contemporary detector technologies
and operational methodologies, this research endeavors to pinpoint opportunities for enhancing radiation protection
within mammography systems. The objective is to elevate image quality while diminishing radiation exposure to
breast tissue, thereby augmenting the overall safety and effectiveness of mammography as a diagnostic instrument.

It is fashionable to produce insect-resistant plants and use environmentally friendly gardening practices to
invite nature into our yards. Hyptis spicigera is a Nigerian medicinal plant (NMP) employed to treat
headaches and colds, as well as to repel insects. The current study aims to profile bioactive chemicals
present in crude extract and fractions using thin layer chromatography (TLC), UV-Vis, FTIR, and GC-MS
spectroscopic methods for analysis. The TLC results indicate that the extract and its fractions contain a
mixture of phytochemicals with varying Rf values (0.35, 0.4, 0.43, 0.61, and 0.70). The spectroscopic
analysis supports the TLC findings by showing that the composition of the plant's aerial parts includes
hydrocarbons (alkanes and alkenes), phenols, steroids, alkaloids, glycosides, saponins, flavonoids, and fatty
acids. The plants previously reported to have repellent properties may be attributed to the secondary
metabolites; therefore, further research on the isolation of pure compounds and toxicological studies could
be beneficial in determining the medicinal properties of the plant.
Health Risk Assessment of Heavy Metals in Infant Formula and Children’s Food Marketed in Sokoto, Nigeria

Heavy metals in infant formula and children’s foods pose significant health risks, especially to infants and young
children, due to their potential for accumulation and toxicity. This study assessed the concentrations of cadmium
(Cd), arsenic (As), lead (Pb), chromium (Cr), and aluminium (Al) in commonly consumed infant formulas and
children’s food products in Sokoto metropolis and evaluated potential health risks. A total of 20 infant formula
samples and 50 children’s food product samples were collected from shops and supermarkets. Samples were
digested and analyzed for metal content using atomic absorption spectrometry. Demographic data on ingestion
rates and body weights were collected via structured questionnaires, enabling calculation of health risk indices
such as Estimated Daily Intake (EDI), Hazard Quotient (HQ), Hazard Index (HI), and Estimated Cancer Risk
(ECR). Results showed heavy metal concentrations in infant formulas ranged from 0.043 mg/kg for Cd to 0.212
mg/kg for As in the 0-6 months age group, and 0.037 mg/kg for Cd to 0.367 mg/kg for As in the 6-12 months age
group. In children’s foods, concentrations varied from 0.020 mg/kg for Cd in chocolates to 0.598 mg/kg for As in
dairy products. HQ values suggested potential non-carcinogenic risks for As and Pb, with ECR values highlighting
As (1.34×10³) and Pb (1.14×10⁶) as major risks for infants aged 6-12 months. These findings underscore the need
for ongoing monitoring and stricter regulations to safeguard infant and children’s food safety in the Sokoto
metropolis.

One of the strategies employed in malaria control and possible elimination efforts is the prevention of the
establishment of malaria parasite infections using prophylactic antimalarial drugs. This strategy has been negatively
affected by the development of resistance of the malaria parasite to the currently used antimalarial drugs. This
development has increased the urgent need for new antimalarial compounds with prophylactic properties against
malaria. This study was conducted to investigate the malaria prophylactic potential of bioactive compounds from
extracts of Alstonia boonei, a medicinal plant traditionally used for malaria treatment in Nigeria and other African
countries. The bioactive compounds were identified by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometer analysis technique
and then subjected to antimalarial tests to determine their prophylactic activity in mice experimentally infected with
Plasmodium berghei. Results from the tests showed that the bioactive compounds possess significant dose-dependent
prophylactic properties at p < 0.05 at the doses used. From these findings, it was concluded that the plant is a potential
source of prophylactic antimalarial molecules and should be further studied for antimalarial drug development.

Sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) is an important economic crop that accounts for 70-80% of global sugar production.
Nigerian domestic sugar production accounts for only 2.7% of the nation’s sugar consumption. Establishment of
commercial sugarcane plantation requires a large number of planting material, which is difficult to obtain using the
conventional method of propagation due to low multiplication rate and transmission of diseases from one generation
to another. Tissue culture is a formidable tool that can be used for micro-propagation and genetic improvement of
sugarcane. This work was carried out to develop a protocol for micropropagation of sugarcane using indirect
organogenesis. Callus was established on Murashige and Skoog media fortified with 2, 4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid
(2, 4-D) after incubation in the dark for four weeks. Shoot regeneration was achieved following culture of embryonic
callus on regeneration media consisting of MS basal supplemented with 6-Benzylaminopurine (BAP) + Naphthalene
acetic acid (NAA). Efficient regeneration of both embryogenic and non-embryogenic callus was achieved on media
containing 2.5 mg/L 2, 4-D. Application of 2.5 mg/L or 3.0 mg/L BAP with 0.5 mg/L NAA significantly increased
the regeneration capacity of the embryogenic callus. The Sugarcane varieties significantly varied in regeneration
potential, with the highest regeneration recorded in M21-1988 and BD9800. The protocol could be adapted for the
mass production of sugarcane planting materials and the subsequent establishment of a commercial plantation in
Nigeria.
Assessment of the Oral Safety Profile of Aqueous and Hexane Root Extracts of African Laburnum (Cassia sieberiana Dc.) in Albino Rats

Cassia sieberiana, primarily found in Africa, particularly in Nigeria, has been an analgesic, antibiotic, and anti
inflammatory agent for decades. However, a scientific evaluation investigation is underway to assess its safety and
efficacy. The present study evaluated the safety of aqueous and hexane root extracts of C. sieberiana in albino rats.
The LD50 and sub-chronic toxicity were determined using (OECD method to assess the effect of the extracts on kidney
and liver parameters after 28 days of oral administration of 1000, 2000, 3000, and 4000 mg/kg B.W. The result
indicated that the LD50 of the extract was >5000 mg/kg B.W. The aqueous extract significantly (P<0.05) decreased
total bilirubin, whereas no significant change (P>0.05) was observed in AST, ALP, albumin, and TP when compared
with the control. Significant (P<0.05) increases in ALP and albumin at doses of 4000 and 3000 mg/kg, respectively,
were observed in the group administered hexane extract. Dose-dependent increase (P<0.05) in creatinine was observed
in the group administered hexane extract. However, there were no significant changes (P<0.05) in kidney function
parameters and electrolytes in rats administered the aqueous extracts. Moreover, all rats exhibited normal increases in
body weight. These results indicated that the aqueous extract is nontoxic, whereas the hexane extract showed
significant changes in liver function parameters at high doses in healthy albino rats; hence, the extracts can be
considered safe for consumption at administered doses.

This study explores biodiesel production from sandbox tree (Hura crepitans) seed oil using a calcium oxide (CaO)
catalyst derived from clamshells. The CaO catalyst was prepared through calcination at 900 °C, which decomposed
carbonates into active CaO, and was characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Energy
Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence (EDXRF), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis.
The XRD pattern confirmed the predominance of CaO in the calcined clamshell, supported by EDXRF results. The
biodiesel produced was evaluated for various fuel properties, including specific gravity: 0.83 ± 0.001, saponification
value: 24.76 ± 1.3 mgKOH/g, higher heating value: 53.69 ± 2.8 MJ/kg, kinematic viscosity: 3.43 ± 0.04 mm²/sec,
flash point: 135 ± 2.61 °C, cloud point: 8.36 ± 0.57 °C, pour point: -3.89 ± 0.2 °C, acid value: 0.45 ± 0.01 mgKOH/g,
and sulfur content: 0.01 ± 0.001%. The results suggest that the clamshell-derived CaO catalyst is a viable and efficient
heterogeneous catalyst for biodiesel production, offering a promising approach for sustainable energy generation and
the utilization of waste materials.
Free Radical Scavenging Activity of Methanol Leaf Extract of Moringa oleifera

Moringa oleifera (Horse radish/Drumstick/Miracle Tree) is a medicinal plant with various parts of the plant employed for therapeutic purposes. The study evaluated the antioxidant activity, phytochemical composition, and free radical scavenging activity of the methanol extract of Moringa oleifera leaf. The percentage yield of the methanol extract was determined to be 6.5%. Qualitative phytochemical screening detected the presence of flavonoids, phenols, alkaloids, tannins, cardiac glycosides, anthraquinone, and steroids, while saponin was absent. The result of quantitative phytochemical analysis revealed total phenolic content (177.5 ± 3.37 mg GAE/g), flavonoids (49.5 ± 8.99 mg QE/g), tannins (65.3 ± 5.45 mg GAE/g), and alkaloids (81.5 ± 3.84 mg AE/g). Antioxidant activity was assessed using the DPPH radical scavenging method, showing a concentration-dependent increase in inhibition, i.e., activity increases with an increase in concentration, with a maximum of 66.2±2.32% at 1000 µg/ml compared to that of standard antioxidant ascorbic acid at the same concentration, to be 81.9±0.1%. The FRAP assay revealed reducing power comparable to ascorbic acid, with Fe²⁺ equivalents of 2.71 ± 0.01 mM and 2.77 ± 0.01 mM, respectively. The findings suggest that Moringa oleifera leaf possesses significant antioxidant potential and valuable phytochemicals, making it a promising source for nutraceuticals for therapeutic applications.

The Mildew Resistance Locus “O” (MLO) is a gene family unique to plants. MLO1 exists in many plants but is
also known as an important member of the MLO gene, which plays a negative regulatory role in plant disease
resistance. This gene was first discovered in barley and the mutants of this gene produce broad-spectrum resistance
to barley Powdery Mildew. No comprehensive study to identify (MLO1) homologs in adopted watermelon
cultivars of Nigeria has been previously conducted. This study aimed at molecular identification of the MLO1
gene in selected Watermelon cultivars. MLO1 Gene was amplified to extract DNA of 10 selected watermelon
varieties using PCR. The result of Multiple Sequence Analysis revealed 100% consistencies in the nucleotide
consensus sequence of selected watermelon varieties concerning that of the MLO1 gene as reference sequence
and SNP observed between two watermelon varieties (Pink Sweet and Heracles) at two different locations and
studies on phylogeny revealed 100% relationship with the reference sequence of MLO1 gene. The findings of this
research confirmed the presence of conserved MLO1 gene in 10 selected watermelon varieties

The use of liquid fertilizers in agriculture has gained attention due to their potential to enhance plant growth and
productivity. The study investigates the effect of foliar spray of liquid fertilizer on the vegetative growth of
sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) and soybean (Glycine max). The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse at the
Botanical Garden Department of Plant Science and Biotechnology, using polythene bags. Liquid fertilizer
(SuperAgro) was prepared at 3 ml/ L-1, 2 ml/L-1, and 1 ml/L-1 and sprayed using a hand atomizer at a water carrier
volume of 400 mL-1 4 m2 while distilled water served as a control, and arranged in a randomized complete block
design RCBD with three replications. Data was subjected to ANOVA using SAS Software 9.0 version. Means
were separated using DMRT at P<0.05. Growth parameters such as plant height, leaf area, stem circumference,
and chlorophyll pigments were recorded. The result indicated significant (p<0.05) improvement in all parameters
evaluated in the study in a concentration-dependent pattern, and the sorghum crop was more sensitive to the foliar
spray of the liquid fertilizer.
Assessment of Heavy Metals and Mycotoxins in Pepper (Capsicum chinense) and Date Fruits (Phoenix dactylifera) Sold Along Traffic Congested Areas in Ilorin

Pepper (Capsicum spp.) and date fruit (Phoenix dactylifera) are widely consumed for their flavour-enhancing
properties and nutritional benefits. However, their potential contamination with heavy metals and mycotoxins due
to environmental exposure raises safety concerns. This study evaluated the concentrations of lead (Pb), cadmium
(Cd), chromium (Cr), and arsenic (As) in eight pepper and date fruit samples collected from traffic-congested areas
in Ilorin, North Central Nigeria. The samples were digested using wet acid digestion and analysed using Atomic
Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). Aflatoxin contamination in exposed pepper (EP), exposed date (ED) and
refrigerated pepper (RP), and refrigerated date (RD) samples was extracted using standard methods and determined
by High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Results showed that Pb concentrations in pepper and date
fruits ranged from 13.4–36.4 mg/kg and 8.5–42.8 mg/kg, respectively, while Cd levels varied from 2.3–21.0 mg/kg
in pepper and 3.2–35.8 mg/kg in date fruits. As concentrations ranged from 0.5–22.6 mg/kg in pepper and 1.1
18.9 mg/kg in date fruits, whereas Cr levels were between 9.1–53.5 mg/kg and 16.9–45.9 mg/kg, respectively.
While some values exceeded FAO/WHO limits, others remained within permissible levels. Aflatoxin analysis
detected no aflatoxins in date samples, while aflatoxin G2 (1.093 ng/g) was found in EP within EU regulatory
limits (10.0 ng/g). Fungal analysis identified Fusarium oxysporum as the dominant contaminant of 5 %. These
findings highlight potential health risks associated with metal contamination and the presence of fungi in the
samples, underscoring the need for regular monitoring and stringent food safety regulations to protect consumer
health and ensure compliance with international standards.

Two essential legumes with both nutritional and financial advantages are groundnut (Arachis hypogaea) and soybean
(Glycine max). Because organic fertilizers like vermicast and cow dung improve soil fertility, nutrient availability,
and microbial activity, they can increase their growth and production. By comparing the impacts of different organic
manures on groundnut and soybean growth performance, this study seeks to increase crop yield and offer insights into
sustainable agriculture methods. The effects of organic fertilizers on the growth performance and physiology of
Arachis hypogaea and Glycine max were investigated. This study used cow dung, vermicast, and a combination of
cow dung and vermicast at three different concentrations: 45 g, 90 g, and 135 g. The following quantitative
characteristics were measured: plant height, leaf area, leaf length, leaf breadth, leaf number, and branch number. Both
species' fresh and dry weights as well as their levels of carotenoid and chlorophyll were measured. Based on the
observed quantitative characteristics, the study found that the effect of three organic fertilizer treatments on Glycine
max growth increases with increasing fertilizer concentration. Of the three treatments, the application of 135 g was
the most effective (69.50±41.72a), while 45 g was the lowest (0.96±0.30abc). Except for cow dung, where the 45 g
(36.00±0.00a) had the highest effect on Arachis hypogaea growth performance and the 90 g treatment had the least,
the same pattern was noted. Vermicast is the least effective, while the combination of cow dung and vermicast is the
most successful for both Glycine max and Arachis hypogaea. The combination of vermicast and cow dung is more
beneficial for Glycine max, although vermicast has the greatest effect on Arachis hypogaea's chlorophyll A and B,
total chlorophyll, and carotene concentration. The most beneficial effect on the fresh (20.78±0.78a) and dry weight
(4.16±0.16a) of both plant species was found in cow dung. Therefore, compared to vermicast, cow dung, and the
mixture are typically more successful at promoting plant development.

Vitellaria paradoxa (Sapotaceae) is an abundant tree with economic and medicinal value in Nigeria. Several
researchers have directed their research interests to V. paradoxa, generating substantial information on the
plant's financial importance, chemical constituents, and medicinal values. Hence, this study aimed to review
the available literature on V. paradoxa. The systematic literature search was performed using several search
engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing) and electronic databases, including SciFinder, Nexis Uni, ASFA, CAB
Abstracts, SID, Scopus, Web of Science, JSTOR, PubMed, AJOL, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect.
Various studies showed that plant parts, including leaves, roots, fruits, and stem barks, harbor metabolites with
proven antioxidant, anticancer, and antimicrobial properties. Such compounds include flavonoids, alkaloids,
anthocyanins, tannins, saponins, cardiac glycosides, steroids, anthraquinones, phenols, and polyphenols. V.
paradoxa is also rich in carbohydrates, proteins, dietary fiber, and fatty acids (such as vaccenic, linoleic, linolenic,
arachidic, oleic, and stearic acids). Vitamin C. Forty-eight research papers reported a total of 7 activities or usages
for the different parts of the plant, of which 31.25% reported phytochemistry, 8.33% reported nutritional
composition, 20.83% reported antimicrobial properties, 2.08% reported toxicity, and 4.17% reported anticancer
properties. In contrast, 16.67% each reported the antioxidant properties and economic importance of V. paradoxa.
This review suggests that the plant could be significant in the drug development and economic development of
West African countries.
Impact of Biochar and Cowdung on Growth and Chlorophyll Content of Cucumber (Cucumis sativus)

An experiment was conducted beside the central research laboratory of the University of Ilorin to study the effects of water hyacinth-derived biochar (WHB) and/or cow dung (CD) on the growth, yield, and chlorophyll content of Cucumis sativus. The treatment includes: 20 g WHB; 40 g WHB; 60 g WHB; 20 g CD; 40 g CD; 60 g CD; 10 g WHB+10 g CD; 20 g WHB+20 g CD; 30 g WHB+30 g CD. The treatments were laid out as a randomized complete block design with three replicates. Parameters assessed were plant height, leaf area, number of leaves, chlorophyll content (chlorophyll A, chlorophyll B, total chlorophyll, and carotenoids), fresh leaf weight, and dry leaf weight. Application of 60 g CD gave the highest leaf number (11.0 leaves/plants) and plant height (27.00 cm), and 40 g CD gave the highest leaf area (50.75 cm2). There is no significant difference among the treatments on the effects on chlorophyll content, but the highest value was recorded in 20 g CD (CHL A-1.31 mg/g; CHL B-0.84 mg/g; total CHL 21.58 mg/g; carotenoids: 4.24 mg/g). However, 60 g WHB produced the highest fresh leaf and dry weight (35.94 g and 13.47 g). It was concluded that using CD only has a promising effect on the plant growth and leaf area of Cucumis sativus. At the same time, the co-application of WHB and CD shows little or no enhancement, especially at high dosages when compared with the control and other treatment groups. 60 g WHB shows a promising effect on the fresh and dry weight of the Cucumis sativus leaf.
Soil Carbon and Nitrogen Enhancement through Co-Inoculation of Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus fusiformis with Rice Husk Amendment

The study was conducted to investigate the influence of Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus fusiformis on soil total nitrogen amended with rice husk in the field, at Usmanu Danfodio University Teaching and Research Fadama Farm Kwalkwalawa, Wamakko Local Government Area, Sokoto State Nigeria. Soil samples were inoculated and collected after 42 days at a depth of 0-30cm with the aid of Auger to make a composite from each treatment. Three (3) samples were collected from each treatment making a total of nine composite (9) treatment samples. Samples were analyzed for total nitrogen and organic carbon. The result shows that Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus fusiformis do not differ with the sole application of rice husk, but rice husk differs significantly with the control treatment (P≤ 0.05). Rice husk recorded the highest soil organic carbon with a mean of (6.94 gkg-1) followed by the combination of Rice husk + B. subtilis + B. fusiformis with a mean of (6.46 gkg-1) and control has the lowest mean of (4.91 gkg-1). Rice husk alone and Rice husk + B. subtilis + B. fusiformis recorded the highest mean values for soil total nitrogen with a mean of (0.10 and 0.12 gkg-1) each and control has the lowest mean of (0.06 gkg-1). This indicates Bacillus strains have the potential to be used for sustainable agricultural practices when amended with organic residues.
A Hybrid Approach for Predicting Diabetes with Machine Learning and Random Projection Technique

One of the main causes of mortality in the world today is thought to be diabetes. Diabetes can cause several problems
if it is not identified and treated early. In This study, we propose a hybrid model that can most precisely predict a
patient's risk of getting diabetes. In the medical domain, classification algorithms are frequently used to divide data
into groups according to criteria that are rather limiting to each. To detect diabetes in its early stages, we employ three
machine learning algorithms specifically Random Forest and Decision Tree (DT), and Support Vector Machine
(SVM). To address the high dimensionality inherent in health datasets, we integrate random projection with machine
learning classification algorithms and enhance computational efficiency without sacrificing predictive accuracy. The
hybrid model leverages a diverse set of features, such as gender, age, hypertension status, heart disease, smoking
history, BMI, HbA1c level, and blood glucose level to predict the patient's diabetes status. The hybrid model is trained
on a dataset taken from clinical care at 130 US hospitals and integrated delivery networks containing 100,000 records.
Performance evaluation was conducted using standard metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 measure.
Our experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model in accurately predicting diabetes risk.
Toxicity Evaluation of Aqueous Extract of Hybanthus enneaspermus Leaves in Fluoxetine-induced Sexually-impaired Female Rats

Hybanthus enneaspermus, a traditional aphrodisiac was investigated for its potential to reverse anti
depressant-induced toxicity. This study explores the effects of an aqueous extract of H. enneaspermus leaves
(AEHEL) in fluoxetine-induced toxicity in female Wistar rats. Sixty, female rats (144.73 ± 5.96g) were divided
into six groups; control group (A), and five induced groups (B-F) and treated with distilled water (negative
control), reference drug (Tadalafil at 20 mg/kg) and extract groups (250, 500, and 1000 mg/kg) respectively,
once daily for seven days. The level of selected liver function indices significantly (p < 0.05) decreased
following the administration of fluoxetine and were significantly reversed following the administration of
extract in a dose-dependent manner. Also, levels of selected kidney function indices and enzyme activities
significantly (p < 0.05) increased and were significantly reversed following the administration of extract in a
dose-dependent manner. There were no treatment-related histo-architectural changes in the organs of the
animals. Overall, the conducted toxicity evaluation of AEHEL in Wistar rats revealed no deleterious effects,
henceforth, suggesting that it could be safe for users using it as an oral remedy for sexual inadequacies in
females.
Evaluating the Combined Effects of Aspartame and Acesulfame Potassium on Reproductive Hormones, Liver Function, and Oxidative Stress in Female Wistar Rats

The use of combinations of artificial sweeteners, particularly, acesulfame potassium (E950) and aspartame (E951), in
foods, beverages, and other products is increasing, despite different reported side effects. This study investigated the
effects of acesulfame potassium and aspartame, individually and in combination on reproductive hormones, liver
function, and oxidative stress markers in female Wistar rats. Twenty-five female rats (90.7 ± 8.1 g) were divided into
five groups, A-E. Group A (the control) received distilled water, group B received a combination of 15 mg/kg
acesulfame potassium and 50 mg/kg aspartame, group C received acesulfame potassium (15 mg/kg body weight),
group D received aspartame (50 mg/kg body weight), and group E received sucrose (330 mg/kg body weight) for
twenty-eight days. The oral combination of acesulfame potassium and aspartame decreased the serum concentrations
of progesterone (2.0±0.60 µg/mL), estradiol (15.70±0.60 pg/mL), and follicle-stimulating hormone
(6.50±0.30mIU/mL), when compared with control (4.50±0.15 µg/mL, 28.20±1.50 pg/mL, and 9.80±0.40 mIU/mL
respectively) with a corresponding increase in serum AST. Although antioxidant enzyme activities were not altered,
reduced glutathione levels increased in the combination group (1.10±0.05 mmol/L) compared with 1.10±0.03 mmol/L
in control. Sucrose-treated rats exhibited no significant differences (p>0.05) from the control group. At the tolerable
daily intake levels (15 mg/kg body weight and 50 mg/kg body weight, respectively), a combination of acesulfame
potassium and aspartame interfered with the ovarian hormonal level and imposed stress on the liver's redox profile. It
may not be completely safe for consumption. Therefore, this suggests the need for caution in consuming artificial
sweetener combinations and calls for further studies to elucidate their long-term effects on health.
